Kickboxing Sport –
Kickboxing is a modern combat sport that originated in the 1960s, primarily in Japan, as a combination of Karate and Muay Thai. In the 1970s, it further developed in the United States as “Full-Contact Karate.” The sport includes punches, kicks, and knee strikes, evolving from the need for realistic, full-contact fighting. Over time, it expanded globally, incorporating styles such as K-1 and Dutch Kickboxing.
Notable Figures:
These include Japanese champion Toshio Fujiwara (the first non-Thai to win a Muay Thai title) and American fighter Joe Lewis, among other pioneers.
